The alluring beauty behind Chinese calligraphy lies in its ability to surpass its means of artistic expression and to also, illustrate itself as a cultural embodiment. It passionately imparts Chinese culture through the form of art, promoting the exchange of culture with all parts of the world. As it continuously gains recognition in the Western culture, it immensely inspires the society to greater heights and revives cultural confidence.
周斌教授在联合国讲授中国书法文化多年,致力于在西方世界提升中国书法的形象与地位,取得了卓越成就。2018年4月19日下午3点,周教授在新加坡丹绒巴葛民众俱乐部举办了一场书法讲座,讲座题为《笔尖上的中国故事--中国书法与跨文化交流》,由世界文化艺术联合总会、狮城书法篆刻会与丹戎巴葛美术会联合主办。
Professor Zhou Bin, an esteemed professor and artist, is a devotee to the educative sharing of the Chinese calligraphy. He is known for his outstanding achievements in delivering compelling speeches to the Western-cultured in the United Nations (UN) for many. This year, he conducted another calligraphy lecture, titled the “Story of China Told Through a Brush Tip – Promoting Cultural Exchange & Chinese Calligraphy”. It was held at the Tanjong Pagar Community Club Art Gallery on 2018 April 19 at 3:00 PM, co-hosted by the Federation of World Cultural & Art Society(Singapore), Shicheng Calligraphy & Seal-Carving Society and the Tanjong Pagar CC Art Club.
周斌教授向近百位本地书法界人士及书法爱好者们分享了他在西方传播书法文化方面的心得。周教授指出,书法艺术是全人类的文化财富,书法的弘扬及传播,是大家共同探讨的话题,希望以此进一步促进海外中国文化艺术的繁荣与发展,加强东西方文化和艺术的深入交流,为世界和平做出贡献。
Professor Zhou Bin shared with hundreds of local calligraphers and calligraphy enthusiasts about his heart-warming experiences, in spreading the culture of Chinese calligraphy to the Western world. He noted that calligraphy art is a cultural asset that can serve as a deep conversation topic to promote the development and broaden the perspectives of cultural arts. As such, strengthening the cross-cultural exchange between the East and West and contributing to world peace.
周教授在生动精彩的讲演中,提到他与前联合国秘书长潘基文先生所结的跨国翰墨师生之缘,以及将书法推广到各国政要的经验,全场观众听得如痴如醉。
Throughout his lively speech, Professor Zhou Bin was able to deeply engage his audience as he brought them through his experiences. One of such memorable experience shared was teaching Chinese calligraphy to Mr. Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary-General of the United Nations.
周教授现为中国上海交通大学-南加州大学文化创意产业学院“中国书法文化国际传播研究所”所长。在讲座中,周教授推出以二十四节气作为核心内容的书法国际教材:《风调雨顺》。周教授解释说,因为2016年“二十四节气”被正式列入“联合国教科文组织人类非物质文化遗产”名录,以他多年从事书法教育的经验让他意识到,如果要让中国书法“走出去”,单纯的技法教学已无法适合当前世界的需求,尤其是海外青少年。因此,他希望以二十四节气作为主轴线,将书法教学和文化教学结合起来,同时还可以把西方的星座文化和中国的二十四节气进行融合。
Professor Zhou Bin is currently Professor and Doctoral Advisor of University of Southern California – Shanghai Jiao Tong University (USC-SJTU) Institute of Cultural and Creative Industry, and Director at the Institute of International Communication of Chinese Calligraphy Culture. In this lecture, he introduced the use of Chinese 24 Solar Terms as the international core content in calligraphy teachings《风调雨顺》(Feng-Tiao-Yu-Shun). He explained that 24 Solar Terms of the Traditional Chinese Calendar was formally listed under “UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity” in 2016. Thus, he intends to integrate it into the teachings of calligraphy and impart cultural knowledge onto younger generations. Professor Zhou Bin also hopes to associate the some Western teachings on constellations together with China’s solar terms.
周教授指出,我们要进行跨文化的交流,把二十四节气推向西方,希望让外国人士了解中国人如何将这套学问用于自己的生活中,并从中受益。
He introduced China’s 24 Solar Terms to the Western culture, in hopes of expanding cultural awareness and sharing how they too, can benefit from this along with the Chinese.
《风调雨顺》当场获得超半以上听讲者抢先订购,周教授已委托世文联副总会长丁峻女士,全权负责代理在新加坡的售书事宜。
On the same day of the lecture, more than half of the attendees acquired the book titled《风调雨顺》(Feng-Tiao-Yu-Shun) and book sales were left entrusted to Ms. Janice Ding Jun, Vice President of Federation of World Cultural & Art Society(Singapore) by Professor Zhou Bin.

The lecture was chaired by Mr. Khoo Seng Kong, President of【Federation of World Cultural & Art Society(Singapore)】. Professor Zhou Bin then capped the lecture with a calligraphy demonstration and presented the couplet to the Federation of World Cultural & Art Society(Singapore) as a gift. The event ended in a harmonious atmosphere.
周斌,1964年11月生于上海,文学博士,浙江大学人文学院书法文献学、心理学出站博士后,1990年起在华东师范大学任教,2006年被聘为教授,先后在美术学系、传播学系担任博士生导师,现为上海交通大学文创学院教授、博士生导师、中国书法文化国际传播研究所所长。2011-2012年被国家留学基金委派往纽约大学从事书法跨文化心理访问研究,期间在哥伦比亚大学、联合国等重要机构讲学,教授联合国秘书长潘基文先生中国书法。
Professor Zhou Bin, born on November 1964 in Shanghai, holds a Ph.D. in Literature and is post-doctoral in Calligraphy and Psychology from the School of Liberal Arts, Zhejiang University. Since 1990, he has taught at East China Normal University and was appointed as a professor in 2006. He has served as a doctoral tutor in the Department of Fine Arts and Communication Studies. He is currently a professor and doctoral tutor of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s College of Culture and Creation, and director of the International Institute of Chinese Calligraphy Culture. In Year 2011 to 2012, he was appointed by New York University to conduct a study on cross-cultural studies of calligraphy. During this period, he lectured at Columbia University, the United Nations and other important institutions, and taught Chinese calligraphy to the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
